Knock, Knock, Knocking on Top 25's Door

12/05/2013 – The women's basketball team continued to flex their early season muscle as they defeated Lourdes 60-43 in front of their home crowd. The victory improved the Saints record to 8-1 on the season and to 4-1 in WHAC play, while the Grey Wolves fell to 1-4 in the league and to 3-7 overall. Aquinas, who is currently ranked 26th in the latest NAIA Coaches Poll, finds themselves in a four-way tie atop of the league standings.

The first ten minutes of action saw the Saints sprint out to an early ten point advantage (14-4). A mini-run by the Grey Wolves whittled the lead to one with 5:25 to play in the half. Aquinas proceeded to close the half scoring the final six points to take a 32-24 lead into the locker room. Taelor Sanders connected on five-of-eight field goals in the first half to pace the Saints attack.

The Saints methodically built the lead to as many as 20 points during the second half. The Saints defense played a major role as they held Lourdes to 21% shooting for the half. Sanders finished the game with 17 points and six assists to help preserve a 60-43 victory. Allison Heberlein chipped in with 12 points and six rebounds, while Jenna Brower netted nine points on the evening.

The Saints will now travel to Marygrove (2-8, 0-5 WHAC) on Saturday in search of their fourth win in a row.
