12/11/2013 – The Aquinas College women's basketball team extended its winning streak to five games, as they beat Olivet tonight by the score of 67-49. It was the Saints' first game since moving into the NAIA Top-25, and improves their record to 10-1 on the season.
A slow start put Aquinas behind early, but the Saints would fight back to tie the game midway through the first-half. A late 8-0 run by the Saints gave them and advantage they would never relinquish, and the hosts led 35-27 heading into the break.
The Saints would pour it on in the second-half, growing the lead to as many as 22 points before settling in with an 18-point victory. Aquinas limited Olivet to just 28% shooting and caused 20 Comet turnovers.
Senior guard Taelor Sanders led the way for the Saints with 22 points and four steals. Junior Allison Heberlein had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Fellow junior Chelsea Matley chipped in nine points, four rebounds and three assists.
The Saints will look to extend their winning streak this Saturday when they host Northwestern Ohio in a conference clash. Game time is 1:00 pm at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center on the campus of Aquinas College.
