03/09/2014 – Goals came early and often for the Aquinas College men's lacrosse team today against Wofford College. A record tying performance by Grant Holloway helped the Saints earn a 22-4 victory over the Terriers. With the win, the Saints improve to 2-0 this season.
Aquinas opened up a 6-0 first quarter lead on the way to an 11-1 advantage at the break. An efficient and balanced scoring effort helped the Saints break the 20-goal barrier for just the third team in team history. Eleven different players scored goals for the Saints, with 15 total players recording points.
Attackman Grant Holloway had a banner day for the Saints. Holloway led the team with five goals and four assists. The sophomore from Royal Oak tied the school record with nine total points. Holloway needed only six shots to tally his five goals.
Junior Jakob Auyer also had a strong game with three goals and two assists. Zack Brancheau added three assists. Freshman Gerrit Boone, Nate Cantin, Matt Scheffler and Chris Wilder all scored their first collegiate goals.
Christian VanDrie, Matt Mulcahy and Mitch Ringer all recorded the first points of their Aquinas careers. Goalies Jimmy Watt and Alec Rasegan combined to stop nine of 13 Terriers' shots.
The Saints return to action on Monday night when they take on the 49ers of UNC-Charlotte. Face-off is at 7:00 pm.
