Karpowicz, Dorko Lead Saints at Championships

05/06/2014 – Seniors, Lindsey Karpowicz and Alica Dorko, were both crowned conference champions for their efforts at the WHAC Track & Field Championships this past weekend. Both the men and the women placed fourth in the seven team field.

Dorko (Pole Vault - 11-9.75) and Karpowicz (Discus - 144-1) were both named All-WHAC 1st Team for their efforts in their specialty events.

Erika Heston, who has already qualified for the outdoor national championships, set a personal best in the 100 meter hurdles (14.73) to record the third best performance in Aquinas history. Also in the hurdles Alex King ran a personal best of (14.77) to hit the automatic qualifier and place her fourth on the Saints All-Time List. The Saints also received strong efforts from the men's 4x800 meter relay. The quartet of Tom Willet, Luke Hawley, Gabe Lundgren and Caleb Teachout ran the third fastest time in Aquinas history (7:39.97). The second place effort also automatically qualified the relay for the Outdoor National Championships. Teachout (1:53.19 - 800 meters) and the men's 4x100 meter relay (Ryan Makinen, Ryan Parminter, Ray Bordeaux and Sam Freeman - 41.84) also improved their provisional qualifying marks.

Other Saints to record Top-Five performances included: Dana Kolnitys (100m - 12.27 - #4 All-Time), Catie Rietsema (5000m - 17:59.3 - #4 All-Time), Ellen Hackett (3000m Steeplechase - 12:23.55 - #5 All-Time) and Clay McNamara (400m Hurdles - 56.13 - #5 All-Time).

Earning Second Team All-WHAC: Caleb Teachout (800 Meter), Steve Glinski (5000 meter), men's 4x800 meter relay, Aaron Hodges (pole vault), Catie Rietsema (5000 meter), Emily Hazelbach (10,000 meter) and the women's 4x100 meter relay (Courtney Klawieter, Dana Kolnitys, Marissa Ingersoll and Micaila Rice).

Earning All-WHAC Honorable-Mention: Clare Naughton (10,000 meter), Dan Foley (10,000 meter), Brad Persbacher (3000 meter steeplechase), men's 4x100 meter relay and the men's 4x400 meter relay.

The Saints Champion of Character representatives were Steve Glinski and Dana Kolnitys.

Earning All-WHAC Academic: Jesus Alvarado, Dan Foley, Kevin Mahar, Alex Martinez, Brad Perschbacher, Michael Shearon, Jessica Dippel, Alicia Dorko, Krystin Dreyer, Kaitlyn Henniger, Erika Heston, Dana Kolnitys and Rachael Steil.

The Saints will return to action on Wednesday as Aquinas hosts their annual twilight meet at Housemen Field.
