ITA Awards, NAIA Championship Preview

05/13/14 – The men's tennis team opens play today at the NAIA National Championships in Mobile, Alabama. The Saints enter the championships with a 24-4 record and will square off against Webber International at 1:30 p.m. The Warriors sport a 13-9 record and will be competing in the seventh championships. The Saints, who received an at-large bid to nationals, will be competing in their 12th championships. Aquinas will look to build on last year's "Elite Eight" finish and add to their win total at nationals (4 wins to date).

Aaron Hendrick was named the 2014 ITA Senior Player of the Year. Aaron started his freshman year at Aquinas College by breaking the school record for single season wins in both singles and doubles. Throughout his four-year career he has maintained Top 20 singles and Top 10 doubles national. An ITA All-American in both 2012 and 2013, Hendrick helped lead the team to a program best No. 8 national ranking, and this year the team has been ranked in the Top 10 all season. He won the 2013 USTA/ITA Midwest Regional singles title and is known to be competitive but fair sport who represents his team and school in the highest manner.


In addition Aaron was named the East Region's Senior Player of the Year. Kristoff Saari was honored as the East Region's Player to Watch, while Coach Hendrick was named the East Region's Men's Coach of the Year.
