11/17/2010 – The women's basketball team fell on the road at Calumet St. Joseph 57-54. The Saints record slips to 1-5, while the Crimson Wave notched their first win of the season against five defeats.
The Saints jumped out to an early 13-2 lead out of the gates and kept the Crimson Wave playing catch up the rest of the first half. Aquinas shot 54% from the field and held a six point (34-28) advantage at the half.
Calumet St. Joseph made some adjustments and slowly chipped away at the Saints advantage. The Saints second half shooting was not helping the cause as Aquinas was 7-30 from the field and 4-9 from the line. Conversely the Crimson Wave connected on 48% of their second half attempts and took their first lead with seven minutes to play in the game. The lead stood as Aquinas found themselves on the losing end of a 57-54 decision.
The Saints were led by Danielle Kapustka and Claire Conway, who both recorded nine points for Aquinas.
Aquinas returns to the court next weekend as the Saints travel to play in the Olivet College Holiday Tournament. The Saints will be matched up with Calvin College (1-0) and host Olivet College (1-0).
