Saints Fall in Consolation Game

11/27/2010 – The men's basketball team was defeated by Hope College in the Consolation Game of the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Classic 92-69. The Flying Dutchman earned their first victory of the season against two defeats, while the Saints record drops to 3-6 on the year.

Matt Neil, who earned his first victory as head coach of the Flying Dutch, saw his team shoot the lights out of the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center. Hope shot 61% (36-59) from the field, 61% (11-18) from the three point line and 90% (9-10) from the charity stripe en route to the decisive victory.

Aquinas received some fine shooting performances as well. Jamell Hatchett (23 points) connected on nine of eleven from the field and A.J. Schmidt (20 points) hit eight of his eleven shots. Schmidt was named to the All-Tournament for his efforts over the last two games.

The Saints will look to end their four game skid against Marygrove (2-4) on Wednesday night. The game will be played at Henry Ford CC at 7:30 p.m.
