Sharp Shooting Leads Saints to Win

12/04/2010 – The men's basketball team opened league play with a victory over Northwestern Ohio 75-68. The win improves the Saints record to 5-6 overall, while the Racers drop to 2-5 on the season.

The Saints found their shooting touch today at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center, as Aquinas used 63% first half shooting to open up a twelve point advantage at the half. A 24-11 spurt over the last ten plus minutes keyed the first half rally.

The steady eye remained in the second half as Aquinas hit on six of their eight three-point attempts. The lead swelled to 16 at the 7:27 mark on a three point basket by Damacious White. White led all scores as recorded 19 points in the contest. Fellow back court mate Jamell Hatchett chipped in with 18 points for the Saints.

The Racers found some life near the end of the game as they outscored the Saints 16-4 over a six minutes stretch. Northwestern Ohio cut the lead to three with just over a minute to play in the game. The Racers would not get any closer as the Saints scored five of the games final six points.

The Saints will renew their rivalry with Cornerstone (9-1, 2-0 WHAC) on Wednesday night at Mol Arena starting at 7:30 p.m.
