12/08/2010 – The women's basketball team was defeated by Cornerstone 72-58 in WHAC play at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center. The victory improves the Golden Eagles record to 11-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the Saints fall to 4-7 on the season and 1-1 in league play.
The Saints were heavy underdogs against the #6 team in the land, but found an early rhythm and were matching Cornerstone in play and intensity. Late in the first half neither team had held a lead larger than five and the game had already seen seven ties. A late 8-0 run to close the half gave the Golden Eagles a little breathing room heading into the halftime break.
The Saints cut into the lead several times during the second half, but could never quite get over the hump. Ann Marie Schmaker (14 points) and Claire Conway (12 points) led the Saints in scoring, while Taelor Sanders scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds.
The Saints will return to action on Saturday as they host Indiana Tech (7-6, 2-1 WHAC)at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center at 1 p.m.
