12/11/2010 – The women's basketball team notched a conference victory as the host Saints defeated Indiana Tech 56-52. The win improves Aquinas' record to 5-7 on the season and to 2-1 in league play, while the Warriors fall to 7-7 overall and 2-2 in the WHAC.
Coach Nash's bunch wasted little time in establishing a presence and an early tempo in the game. Marissa Marx hit three early three pointers to give the Saints a 25-10 advantage at the eight minute mark of the first half. The Saints good fortunes quickly turned south as the Warriors rattled off the next 15 points to tie the game at 25 with four minutes to play in the half. The teams went into the halftime locker rooms with the Saints leading 32-29.
The Saints reopened the lead as Shelby Carter was controlling the paint early in the second half. Danille Kapustka's bucket at the 15 minute mark gave the Saints a little breathing room at 40-31. The Warriors responded with a 9-0 run of their own to tie the game at 40. The two teams would trade baskets the rest of the way with the Saints maintaining a slight advantage. Shelby Carter and Taelor Sanders drained important free throws down the stretch to secure the four point win.
Shelby Carter led the Saints with 16 points and eleven rebounds, while Taelor Sanders chipped in with eleven points and seven rebounds. Aquinas will return to action at the St. Xavier Holiday Tournament the week after Christmas.
