12/19/2010 – The Aquinas College men's basketball team concluded a big week with a 78-76 victory over Calvin College. Aquinas improves its overall record to 7-8 with the win, while the Knights fall to 4-5 on the season.
A.J. Schmidt scored the first five points of the game and Sandy Underwood's three-pointer at the 17:53 mark gave the Saints the early 8-1 lead. The seven point advantage the Saints enjoyed would be the largest either team would experience during the entire contest. The remainder of the games saw twelve lead changes and ten ties with neither team extending the lead by more than five points. Damacious White's three-pointer at the buzzer gave the Saints a 30-29 advantage going into the halftime locker room.
Schmidt who finished the first half with five points exploded in the second half to lead the Saints to the two point victory. Schmidt drained five three pointers en route to his game high 24 points. Jamell Hatchett chipped in with 15 points, while Damacious White added twelve points and eight assists for the Saints.
The Saints, winners of four of their last six, will return to action on Wednesday, December 29th versus Huntington at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center at 7 p.m.
