12/28/2010 – The women's basketball team was defeated by Roosevelt University in a high scoring affair at the St. Xavier Holiday Tournament. The victory improves the Lakers record to 9-5 on the season, while the Saints slip to 5-9 with the loss.
The two teams kept the scoreboard personal busy as they combined to score a total of 166 points on the night. The Saints found themselves trailing by eight midway through the first half. Aquinas found the answer with solid defense and accurate three point shooting as the Saints went on an 18-5 over a six minute span to open a five point lead. Unfortunately the Lakers responded with a 13-2 run of their own to finish the half leading 47-41.
Roosevelt kept the momentum going in the second half and opened up a 16 point lead. The Saints trimmed the lead to nine at the 12:07 mark on a layup by Taelor Sanders, but could not climb any closer as the Lakers prevailed 91-75.
Aquinas was led by Taelor Sanders who scored 18 points and recorded seven steals. The Saints also received double digit performances from Lindsey Karpowicz (15), Marisa Marx (12) and Jenna Brower (10).
Aquinas will be back in action tomorrow as they conclude play in the St. Xavier Holiday Tournament. The Saints will be matched up against Ray Fron, former assistant coach at Aquinas, and his team from Spring Hill (Ala.) who sport the same record (5-9) as the Saints.
