Saints Claim Seven Firsts, Heiler Breaks Record

01/07/2011 – Dustin Heiler’s school record in the 600M highlights the action for the Saints at the Laker Early Bird hosted by Grand Valley State. The indoor track teams competed well and shook off the “rust” after the extended holiday break.

The Saints looked very impressive in the men’s 600M as the Saints ran three of the top five times in school history. Heiler’s time of 1:21.62 eclipsed the previous record held by former Saint great, Chris Leikert. Dustin’s time was not only a school record, but also qualifies him provisionally for the NAIA Indoor National Championships. Nick Thelen (#2 All-Time – 1:22.44) and Charles Irmen (#5 All-Time – 1:23.38) also turned in super efforts in the men’s 600.

Rachael Steil brought home top honors in the women’s mile by crossing the line in 5:06.83. Steil’s time places her 4th on the All-Time Mile List at Aquinas and also automatically qualifies her for the NAIA Indoor National Championships in Geneva, Ohio.

First place performances were also turned in by Joordan Hall (60M), Samantha DeStefano (200M), Alina Dhaseleer (3000M) and Ryan Helminiak (TJ & HJ).

The Saints will return to action next Friday as they travel to Central Michigan to compete in the Chippewa Invitational.
