01/08/2011 – The women's basketball team was defeated by Siena Heights by the score of 80-72. The battle of the Saints was contested today at Aquinas College's Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center. The victory improves Siena's record to 7-11 overall and 2-3 in the WHAC, while Aquinas drops to 6-12 overall and 3-2 in league play.
After scoring the first basket of the game, Aquinas was playing catch up the rest of the way. The Saints tied the score on six different occasions with Siena Heights, but never could regain the advantage. The Saints from Siena built the lead to as high as eleven in the first half just to see Aquinas chip away and tie the score at 42 with 15 minutes to play in the game. Siena Heights made its decisive run half way through the second half when they extended their lead to a dozen points.
Siena Heights was led by Sierra Brown's 18 points, while Aquinas was led by Ann Marie Shumaker's 15 points.
The Saints will return to action on Wednesday as they travel to Ann Arbor to battle the Cardinals from Concordia (10-7, 3-2 WHAC).
