01/12/2011 – The men's basketball team was defeated by Concordia University by the score of 63-52 at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center. The victory improves the Cardinals record to 10-8 on the season and 3-3 in the WHAC, while the Saints record drops to 8-11 overall and 1-5 in the league.
The Saints, who were looking to end a two game losing skid in the conference, started quickly. Aquinas scored the first six points of the game and rushed out to an 18-8 advantage at the 12:34 mark of the first half on a three point make by Tim Jensen. A four minute scoring drought ensued allowing the Cardinals to get back into the game. The Saints finished the half shooting 30% from the field and trailed Concordia by the count of 26-24.
Concordia raced out of the gates to score the first eleven points of the second half. The Saints went six minutes without scoring dating back to the final minutes of the first half. The Cardinals extended the lead to as many as 17 with 5:37 to play in the contest. Aquinas responded with an 11-0 run over the next three minutes to make it interesting, but the Cardinals held on making key free throws down the stretch.
Concordia was led by Rocko Holmes who scored 23 points and grabbed ten rebounds. The Saints were led by Damacious White's 24 points.
Aquinas will return to action on Saturday as they travel to Davenport (17-3, 4-2 WHAC) to play the Panthers at 3 p.m.
