02/24/2011 – The women's basketball team season came to an end last night as Aquinas was defeated by Davenport 87-47. The victory improves the Panthers record to 31-0 on the season, while the Saints conclude the 2010-2011 campaign with a record of 9-22.
The Saints, who were looking to spring the upset and prolong their season, started slowly and never could recover from the 16-0 ambush during the games first five minutes. Six turnovers and five missed shots led to the early hole dug by the Saints. The #1 ranked and undefeated Panthers kept the pressure on and built a 29 point lead at the halftime break. Davenport outshot the Saints during the decisive first half by a margin of 56%-24%.
The Saints continued to battle in the second half, but could never put a dent into the Davenport lead. Aquinas shot the ball better (50%) and committed fewer turnovers, but it was not enough as the Panthers upended the Saints by the score of 87-47.
The Saints were led by Shelby Carter's 15 points and seven rebounds.
