03/01/2011 – The women's lacrosse team opened the 2011 season with an impressive 19-6 victory over Grand Valley State. The Lakers quieted a mostly Aquinas crowd at their field by scoring a quick opening goal less than a minute into the game, but the Saints regrouped to rattle off five unanswered goals to take a 5-1 lead.
The Saints built an 11-2 lead at the half and ran away from the Lakers in the second half. Aquinas was paced by Kati Rogers with five goals and two assists. Rogers third goal of the game was her 100th career goal.
Taelor Sanders, fresh off basketball season, added four goals. Michelle Murphy added two goals and four assists, while Lauren McCarty was the ignition for the Saints offense adding three goals and two assists. Hannah Brogger added two goals and Bri Shefferly added a goal and had four ground balls and was a strong presence on both ends of the field.
The Saints will return to action this weekend as they travel to Rome, Georgia for a tournament.
