03/04/2011 – Aquinas' Charles Irmen highlights day two of competition at the NAIA National Indoor Championships. The opportunistic Irmen found himself in a great situation after watching the first heat race around the track. Charles, who was seeded last in the event, watched a tactical first heat that lead to very slow times. Irmen took advantage of the situation and ran a personal best time of 1:55.33 to grab the eighth and final spot in the finals. Irmen moves up to the #4 position on the All-Time List for the 800 meters at Aquinas.
Also competing for the Saints was Emily Smith, who placed 32nd in the weight throw with a toss of 48-03.5. Ryan Helminiak competed in the men's high jump bowing out at his attempt to clear 6-06.75.
The men's distance medley relay, along with Charles Irmen in the 800M, will look to take home All-American honors in their respective events tomorrow afternoon.
