04/04/2011 – The men's baseball team extended their winning streak to nine games with a pair of victories over Rochester. The Saints currently sport a 12-8-1 record, while the Warriors drop to 9-8 on the season.
Aquinas captured the first game of the twin bill by the count of 9-3. The Saints starter, Kaleb Ort, picked up the victory by pitching five strong innings and allowing two earned runs. Ort scattered seven hits and also struck out seven batters. Brian Loper was perfect in relief shutting down any thoughts of a Warrior rally. The offense was keyed by Kennen Less, who went 3-3 and scored three times. Less improved his team high batting average to .470. Third baseman, Austin King, also played well collecting two base hits and driving in three runs. Michael Wood contributed two doubles and two RBI's.
In the second game the Saints hit the ball extremely well collecting 16 runs and 19 hits. Aquinas won the slugfest by the score of 16-7. Ryan Grigonis led the attack for the Saints with two base hits, two runs scored and four RBI's. Also starring for the Saints was Michael Penny who continued his strong sophomore season by notching three hits and scoring three runs. Penny also stole a base to add to his team high total of 16. Brent Butgereit opened the flood gates in the fifth with a base clearing three run pinch hit double to right center.
The Saints will return to action on Wednesday with a non-conference double header at Kimble Field versus Bethel.
