04/04/2011 – The women's softball team jumped out to an early lead in the WHAC by posting four wins over the weekend. Sweeps of UM Dearborn and Siena Heights improved Aquinas' record to 21-7 on the season and 4-0 in league play.
The dynamic duo of Carlie Giarmo and Ashley White both were awarded a pair of victories for their strong pitching performances. Giarmo, who was awarded her second consecutive WHAC Pitcher of the Week Award, pitched eleven and two-thirds innings and only gave up one run and five hits. White stuck out 13 batters in eleven and a third innings of work.
Offensively, the Saints could not be stopped over the weekend. Aquinas collected 45 hits and delivered 45 runs over the four games. Leading the attack for Aquinas was leadoff hitter, Taylor Turcott, who delivered seven hits, seven runs and three RBI's. Renae Tubergen also filled the scorecard with six runs, six hits and four RBI's. On the season Tubergen leads the Saints in home runs (7) and RBI's (25).
The Saints will travel to Fort Wayne on Wednesday in a key WHAC matchup with Indiana Tech (22-8, 3-0 WHAC)
