05/26/2011 – The men's and women's track and field teams opened competition at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Nationals in Marion, Indiana today. The Saints not only battled the NAIA's best, but also encountered unseasonably cool and wet weather in the region.
The women's 4x100 meter relay (Koenig, Dorko, DeStefano, Hall) advanced to the semifinal round as the Saints posted a time of 48.19 in the preliminary heat. Joordan Hall also advanced to the semifinals in the 100 meter dash (12.22). Freshman pole vaulter, Alica Dorko cleared the opening height of 3.40 meters, but failed to advance at the 3.55 meter height.
The men's 4x800 meter relay (Thelen, Gunneson, Stickney and Heiler) won their heat with a time of 7:42.01. The performance was the second fastest time in school history and qualifies the Saints for tonight's final.
Rachel Luehm placed 27th in the women's steeplechase with a time of 11:58, while Katy Cramer finished 22nd (39:27) in the 10,000 meter final. Devin Lea capped his season by finishing second in his heat of the 10,000 meter with a personal best time of 31:43. Lea's time placed him 29th in the overall 10,000 Meter placings.
