Saints Fall in Season Opener

08/25/2011 – The women's soccer team was defeated by Trinity Christian by the score of 4-1 to open the 2011 season. The Trolls, who are ranked 22nd in the NAIA, improved to 1-0 on the young season.

Allison Doyle scored an unassisted goal in the 14th minute to give Trinity Christian the early advantage. Rachel Webb found the back of the net less than a minute later to extend the lead to 2-0. The two teams remained scoreless the rest of the half. In the 50th minute Rachel Webb struck for the second time giving the Trolls a little more breathing room. Aquinas finally broke through in the 54th minute as Elizabeth Vaughan scored to slice the lead to two goals. Maggie Keiffer was credited with the assist on Vaughan's goal. Trinity Christian's Morgan Mattson scored off a corner kick by Allison Doyle to give the Trolls the 4-1 victory.

Hannah Gonzales was credited with the win in net for Trinity Christian as she recorded six saves, while Kelsey Duley stopped seven shots on goal for the Saints. Aquinas will return to action with a home contest on Friday versus St. Xavier (0-0).
