08/27/2011 – The women's soccer team defeated St. Xavier by the score of 2-1 to earn their first victory of the season. The Saints record improves to 1-1, while the Cougars fall to 0-1 on the young season.
The Cougars, who were competing in their season opener, started the scoring with a goal by Larissa Jondle in the 23rd minute. The score remained 1-0 until Melissa Hogan netted her first career goal in the 62nd minute. Jamie Tomaszewski was credited with the assist on Hogan's goal. The combination of Hogan and Tomaszewski recorded eight shots on goal and kept the pressure on the St. Xavier keeper all game. Jamie Tomaszewski broke the tie and scored the eventual game winner in the 71st minute on a set up by Madeline Rammal. Kelsey Duley earned the victory in net as she recorded three saves.
The Saints continue their start of the season home stand with a game versus Grace College (2-0) on Tuesday starting at 6 p.m.
