09/04/2011 – The women's soccer team defeated Illinois Tech to earn their third victory of the season. The Saints improved their record to 3-2 on the season, while the Scarlet Hawks remain winless at 0-3.
Aquinas was still feeling some lingering effects of the game against Adrian from Thursday night as they prepped for the conclusion of their five game homestand. The Saints, who were in control of the game from start to finish, used a smothering defense and timely goal scoring to outlast Illinois Tech 2-0.
The Saints first goal came off a header by Elizabeth Vaughan (2nd goal of the season) in the 31st minute. Vaughan's goal was set up beautifully by freshman Maggie Keiffer (2nd assist of the season). Aquinas' second goal of the game came off the foot of senior Natalie Walter during the 75th minute of play. At first glance the shot seemed to be heading wide when at the last second it curved and nestled in the top left corner of the net. Elizabeth Vaughan (3rd assist of the season) was credited with the assist on Walter's first goal of the season. Kelsey Duley was credited with the win, while Amy Arnhart suffered the loss in net for the Scarlet Hawks.
The Saints will travel to Spring Arbor on Wednesday as they play guest to the Cougars starting at 5 p.m.
