11/09/2011 – The women's basketball team was defeated by Huntington University, who is currently ranked 13th in the NAIA. The Foresters improved to 2-0 on the season, while the Saints record falls to 1-2.
Aquinas weathered an early storm that saw them fall behind 8-0 after three minutes of play. The Saints used a 16-8 run over the next twelve minutes to tie the game on a layup by Taelor Sanders. Aquinas finished the half holding a 26-25 advantage over Huntington. The Saints out shot the Foresters in the first half 42%-28%, but 14 first half free throws by Huntington kept the game close.
The charity stripe continued to be Huntington's best friend in the second half as they visited it 24 times (converting on 17). Conversely the Saints were limited to five free throw attempts in half number two. A pivotal five minute stretch in the second half allowed the Foresters to extend the lead to ten points with seven minutes to play. The Saints continued to play hard and narrowed the lead to two with 16 seconds to play on a layup by Shelby Carter. Huntington converted their free throws down the stretch and the Saints would not get any closer on this night.
The Saints were lead by the duo of Taelor Sanders and Anne Marie Shumaker, who scored 17 and 14 respectively. The Saints out shot the Foresters 43%-38% for the game, but lost the rebound war 42-26.
The Saints will return to action on Saturday with a road date at Goshen (0-4).
