Saints Dominate Play, Fall in 2nd Overtime

11/12/2011 – The men's soccer team was defeated by Madonna in a two overtime affair that determined the WHAC representative at the NAIA National Championships. The Crusaders victory improved their record to 7-8-5 on the season, while Aquinas concludes the 2011-12 campaign with a record of 14-4-2.

The Saints, who controlled tempo and dictated the match, held the advantage in every statistical category except the final scoreboard. Aquinas out shot Madonna 34-8 with the Crusaders keeper, Adrian Motta, recording 12 saves. The Saints also saw their share of shots narrowly miss as the crossbar proved to be an extra Madonna defender. A goal by Brandon Hess in the 100th minute was the difference maker and propelled the Crusaders to the championship.

Aquinas has to endure a bitter end to an otherwise great season by Coach Veal and his team. The Saints came into the season with some holes on offense and many question marks. The season, now in the history books, however turned out very successful. New stars emerged, victories piled up, and the tradition of Aquinas men's soccer lives on.
