11/13/2011 – The men's basketball team was defeated by Indiana Wesleyan 74-63 in the final day of the WHAC/MCC Challenge. The victory improves the Wildcats record to 5-0, while the Saints have opened the season 1-4.
The Saints, who were matched up with the #2 team in the land, suffered a slow start versus the Wildcats. Indiana Wesleyan used a 17-4 ambush to take control of the game early. The Saints stuck to their game plan and used a 7-0 run to cut the lead to six (33-27) at the half.
Aquinas clawed their way within four on a few different occasions during the second half, but could never quite get over the hump. The host Wildcats maintained a steady lead during the remainder of the game and won 74-63. The difference in the game was a 9-1 advantage for Indiana Wesleyan in three point make department. George Jones led four Wildcats in double figures with 18 points.
Cole Moore's play kept the Saints close as the senior scored 18 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and dished out three assists. Tyler Moreland chipped in with 14 points, while Jake Shockey added ten.
The Saints will return to action on Tuesday with a road date against the MIAA's Comets of Olivet (0-0).
