01/04/2012 – The men's basketball team started 2012 with a victory as the Saints traveled to UM-Dearborn and defeated the Wolves 75-53. The victory improved the Saints record to 7-10 overall and 3-4 in league play, while UM-Dearborn fell to 1-16 on the season and are still winless in the WHAC at 0-5.
The Saints used a 23-7 run midway through the first to open up a 34-16 advantage with five minutes to play before halftime. Aquinas took a 15 point lead (39-24) into the locker room and extended it to 31 by scoring 19 of the first 21 points in the second half. Aquinas' play was keyed by Tyler Moreland's efficient play off Coach Hammer's bench.
Moreland led the Saints with 21 points and seven rebounds. Tyler connected on eight of his nine field goal attempts, including three of four from beyond the three point arc. Aquinas also received double digit scoring efforts from Kevin Grant (13), Zach Eddy (11), and Ken Gordon (10). Julius Porter paced the Wolves with 26 points.
The Saints will return to action on Saturday with a home date versus Siena Heights (5-11, 2-3 WHAC) at 3 p.m.
