Poor Shooting Dooms Saints

01/14/2012 – The women's basketball team fell to #3 ranked Davenport by the count of 71-58 in WHAC action today. The victory improved the Panthers record to 18-2 on the season and to 8-0 in league play, while the Saints fell to 11-8 overall and 4-4 in the WHAC.

The cross town foes renewed their rivalry on the campus of Davenport University. The Saints, who were looking up at the Panthers in the standings, were flirting with the upset of the number three team in the land. The two teams played even basketball for the first ten minutes of the game before Davenport forged ahead. The Panthers built a 15 point advantage before the halftime horn sounded. Aquinas' struggles from the field (30% for the game) limited the Saints production and allowed Davenport to maintain their double digit lead.

Coach Nash's secret weapon, Chelsea Matley, proved to be not enough as the freshman enjoyed her best game in an Aquinas uniform. Matley led the Saints with 16 points and seven rebounds. Taelor Sanders filled the stat sheet as she recorded ten points, seven rebounds, six assists, and five steals. Davenport was paced by Karli Harris and Abby Neff who both recorded 14 points.

The Saints will return to action on Wednesday as Aquinas will travel to Livonia to play host Madonna (7-10, 4-4 WHAC) on Wednesday.
