Saints Win, Sanders Makes History

02/05/2012 – The women's basketball team broke their three game losing skid with a convincing 78-52 win over UM Dearborn. The victory improves the Saints record to 14-11 overall and to 7-7 in the league, while the Wolves drop to 3-21 on the season and to 2-12 in WHAC play.

The Saints broke open a close contest with a 19-2 surge over the halves final seven minutes. Aquinas' run was spearheaded by Taelor Sanders, who finished the half with ten points, six rebounds, and seven assists. The Saints, who held a 39-23 halftime advantage, continued to turn up the heat. The lead swelled to as many as 31 during the second half and Sanders continued to inch closer to the school's first ever triple-double. With 12:19 to play, Sanders assisted on a two point make by Anne Marie Shumaker to make history. Sanders concluded the game with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists. Taelor joins Tabatha Wydryck (09-10) and Jackie Pingston (04-05) of Madonna as the only three women in WHAC history to net this elusive feat.

The Saints, who are currently in sixth in the league standings, will host Siena Heights (16-10, 8-6 WHAC) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
