02/07/2012 – Taelor Sanders of Aquinas was named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week after becoming just the third female in WHAC history to record a triple-double.
The junior from Dewitt started the week with a 22-point performance in a 64-53 loss at Indiana Tech before helping Aquinas break a three-game losing skid. Her 18 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists helped the Saints to a 78-52 road win at Michigan-Dearborn. With her triple-double, Sanders joins Jackie Pingston and Tabatha Wydryck of Madonna as the conference's only triple-doubles. Pingston recorded the league's first during the 2004-05 season and Wydryck followed in the 2009-10 year.
For the week, Sanders averaged 20 points, 9.5 rebounds, seven assists, and a steal. She shot a blistering 65 percent from the field (13-for-20) and was 13-for-16 (.813) from the free throw line. She leads the team with 15.24 points, 5.68 rebounds, and 2.68 assists per game and ranks 26th in NAIA Division II for field goal percentage (.467).
Aquinas, 7-7 in WHAC play and 14-11 overall, takes the hardwood again on February 8th against Siena Heights.
