Helminiak, Dorko Named All-Americans

03/02/2012 – The Saints duo both were recognized for their performances at the NAIA Indoor National Championships. Ryan Helminiak placed fourth in the High Jump with a 6-8 effort, while Dorko placed sixth in the Pole Vault with a vault of 11-9.75. Alicia bettered her own school record by almost two inches.

The Saints also received a school record performance by Caleb Teachout in the 600 meter. The freshman from Grand Rapids West Catholic improved his own school record by over one second (1:19.83). Caleb had the second fastest time in the preliminary round and advanced to tomorrow's final. Rumeal McKinney also advanced to the finals in the 60 meter as he ran a 6.76 in the semifinal round.

Samantha DeStefano competed in both the 60 meters and 200 meters for the Saints. DeStefano placed 15th in the 60 meters with a time of 7.79 and ran a near personal best of 25.48 in the 200 meter. Aquinas also had two competitors in the weight throw. Emily Smith placed 21st with a toss of 49-6.5, while Joe Stachowicz placed 24th with a mark of 51-3.75.

The Saints will look for more All-Americans in the final day of competition tomorrow.
