03/14/2012 – The Aquinas College men's lacrosse team defeated Calvin College 15-3 in their home opener. The game was also the division opener for the Saints.
A slow start by the Saints allowed Calvin to take the lead early, but a big run gave Aquinas a 7-2 advantage at the half. A strong team defensive effort led by senior James Burkhardt and junior Connor Sutton held the Knights to just one goal in the second half and allowed the Saints to leave the field victorious.
Senior Ty Rosema once again led the offense with two goals and five assists. The seven points put Rosema over the 100 career points milestone. Nate McCorry had three goals and two assists while Casey Coretti added three goals. Tim Hansen was strong at the faceoff, while also contributing two goals and two assists.
Jordan Matheny, Jacob Jeffers, Jake Auyer, Zack Brancheau and Grant Holloway each added a goal for the Saints. Freshman Joe Manuszak stopped 9 shots in net to pick up the victory.
The Saints' improved their record to 4-2 and 1-0 in the division. They return to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Grove City.
