03/23/2012 – The Aquinas women's softball dropped the first game of a double header against Bethel College and the rain kept them from redeeming themselves in the second. The loss at Fuller Park brought the Saints record to 10-9, while the Pilots improve to 6-7 on the season.
Saints errors and a few key hits by the Pilots put Bethel up 3-0 right away in the first inning. White pitched a solid game and the Saints battled back, but it was not enough. The offenses of Aquinas and Bethel battled back and forth over the next four innings until the Pilots opened the floodgates in the seventh and put up six runs. The final score was 12-3.
The second game started with a two-run home run by Hendrick of the Pilot's . The long ball did not phase the Saints though. The ladies came back by scoring three runs in the bottom half of the first. Both teams went scoreless in the second inning and at the start of the third the sky opened up for rain. The game was called before the Saints had a chance to take one back from Bethel.
The softball team returns to action Saturday at St. Francis (5-9) at 1 p.m.
