03/26/2012 – The women's softball team took down Alma College in both games of twin bill. The victories in Alma lifted the Saints record to 12-9 and dropped the Scots to 12-6.
Sophomore, Becca Shineldecker, pitched a shutout against the Scots in the first game bringing her season record to 4-1. The first three innings went scoreless until the Saints cracked the egg in the fourth inning on back to back doubles from Stratton and Tubergen. Aquinas added three runs during the fourth inning with RBI's from Stowell and Stratton. The Saints added an insurance run on a RBI single by Torie Lowe in the seventh. Shineldecker's superb pitching performance kept the Scots bats at bay as she scattered five hits and recorded six strikeouts.
During the second half of the double dip, the Saints did not waste any time securing the lead. Ashley Pickel singled to lead off the game and was advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Taylor Turcott. Pickle scored on a RBI single by Sadie Stowell. The hit parade continued, but the Saints did not cross the plate again until the fifth inning. Pickel lead off the fifth with a single which lead to Stratton and Tubergen RBI's later in the inning. Aquinas' hitting seemed to be contagious during this game as Pickel, Stowell, Stratton, and Tubergen all recorded three hits a piece. The Saints collected 13 hits overall and scored four runs, beating the Scots 4-1. Carlie Giarmo was credited with the victory as she allowed one run on four hits while striking out eight.
The women's softball team will return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Spring Arbor (7-11) to battle the Cougars at 3:30 p.m.
