04/16/2012 – The women's softball team defeated Concordia University twice in Ann Arbor. The pair of victories escalated the Saints season record to 20-17 overall and to 3-3 in the WHAC. Concordia fell to 16-19 overall with an 0-6 record in league play.
The first game of the twin bill began as a pitcher's duel between Carlie Giarmo and the Cardinals, Jeni Bollenbacher. Bollenbacher held the Saints to one run through five innings. Concordia scored their only run in the fourth on an RBI single by Butcher. The flood gates opened in the sixth with the Saints scoring eleven runs in the final two innings of the game. Senior, Whitney Stratton lead the way pushing four Saints' runs across the plate. Giarmo had a stellar outing allowing only three hits and fanning eleven Cardinals in seven innings. The 12-1 win puts Giarmo's season record at 10-7.
The back half of the double header was a continuous hit parade through five innings for the Saints. Senior, Sam Klinkner, was the standout in this game. Sam reached base three times, scoring every time. Klinkner capped off her outing with a three-run home run in the fourth inning. Becca Shineldecker kept the Cardinals bats at bay, pitching her way to a 7-2 record overall. Shineldecker aided in the Saints' 11-0 victory by striking out five and allowing only two hits.
The Saints are back in action Tuesday at Fuller Park, taking on Indiana Tech (2-2) in conference play.
