Saints Shine at Don Kleinow Memorial

04/17/2012 – The track & field teams continued to rack up national qualifiers and top marks at this past weekends meet hosted by Siena Heights.

Headlining for the Saints was the work in the field events by the Aquinas men. Ryan Helminiak hit an automatic qualifier in the High Jump, while Joe Stachowicz punched his ticket to nationals in the Hammer Throw. Helminiak's jump of 6-9 was the second highest jump ever by an Aquinas athlete. Currently the height is the fifth highest jump in the country. Stachowicz's toss of 176-8 puts him fourth on Aquinas' all-time list for that event. Jordan Gerard also recorded a "big jump" as he cleared 14-10.25 in the Pole Vault. Gerard's vault places him in second place on the Saints all-time list.

Nick Thelen and the men's 4x100 meter dash also had solid performances for the Saints. Thelen placed second in the 800 meter with a time of 1:52.83 to qualify him for the national meet. Thelen's time ranks as the second fastest half mile in Aquinas history. The men's relay improved their provisional qualifying time with a first place effort of 41.61. The foursome of Blake Garvey, Ryan Parminter, Jake Sanders, and Rumeal McKinney will look in the coming weeks to inch closer to the automatic qualifier.

Aquinas will return to action on Saturday as they host the Ernie Mousseau Track & Field Classic.
