10/02/2010 – The women's cross country team recorded the fourth fastest team time in school history as the Saints placed 10th out of 41 schools at the Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational. Northwestern from the Big Ten claimed the team championship in the college division.
The women not only battled great competition, but also the weather. A light drizzle combined with 40-50 mph winds made the trail a little tougher to travel. The Saints remained focused and turned in one of the best performances in recent years.
Rachael Steil led the charge for the Saints as she finished the 5000 meter course in 18:16 (14th place out of 511 runners). Seniors Katy Cramer and Alicia Boyton filled the next two spots in 19:03 and 19:16 respectively, a personal best for Boynton. Alina Dhaseleer and Sam Rinkus rounded out the scoring positions for the Saints, as Dhaseleer recorded a 19:22 and Rinkus chalked up a 19:30. Rachel Luehm (20:02) and Megan Byrne (20:27) completed the top seven for the Saints. Aquinas was the top NAIA team in today's field.
The Saints will return to action on Friday as they travel to Oakland University to compete at the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships.
