09/08/2012 – A late first half flurry lifts the Saints to a road victory over Goshen 3-1. The win improved the Saints record to 3-2-1 on the season, while the Maple Leafs fell to 2-2.
Coach Veal's crew seized controlled of the game after an early goal by Goshen's Josh Van Allen. The one goal was all the Saints would allow on this night as the Maple Leafs could only muster six shots. Aquinas tied the game during the 36th minute as Tyler Fischer laced a shot passed the keeper from 18 yards out. The Saints were not finished in the half as Mitch Torres and Joey VanGessel also struck for goals within six minutes of Fischer's. Torres headed in a deflection, while VanGessel's shot snuck in along the endline.
Leading 3-1 at the half the Saints possessed the ball and used the clock during the second stanza to secure the win on Goshen's home field. Mike Sweers was credited with the win as he recorded one save in net, while his counterpart Brian O'Leary stopped four shots for the Maple Leafs.
The Saints will return home for a date with Calumet College of St. Joseph (1-3) on Wednesday starting at 4:30 p.m.
