Saints Win Volleyball Classic

10/06/2012 – The women's volleyball team claimed the overall title at the Aquinas College Classic at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center. The Saints improved their overall mark to 7-11 and have now won three straight games.

The Saints made quick work of IU-Northwest on Saturday as they swept the Red Hawks in three (25-11, 25-6 and 25-11). Sierra VanTil recorded ten kills to pace the Aquinas offense. Nicci Thomas notched 21 assists, while Anna Fencil and Rachel Sprenger were credited with seven digs a piece.

In a hotly contested championship game, the Saints prevailed over Huntington in four sets (25-23, 18-25, 31-29 and 25-14). The match was keyed by the fine play of MacKenzie Kolstad. The sophomore from Richland stuffed the stat sheet with 14 kills and 16 digs. Nicci Thomas anchored the offense with 39 assists.

The Saints will get right back to action with a tri-match at Rochester College on Monday versus the host Warriors (13-14) and Ursuline College (2-21) out of Pepper Pike, Ohio.
