11/03/2012 – The men's cross county team repeated as WHAC Championships at Riverside Park on Saturday afternoon. The Saints will now advance to the NAIA National Championships in Fort Vancouver, Washington in two weeks. Aquinas enters the championships ranked 10th in the latest NAIA coaches poll.
The Saints were led by the first place finish of Grant Gunneson. Gunneson, who was crowned WHAC Runner of the Year, came off the course in a time of 25:21. All-WHAC performances were also turned in by Stephen Glinski (3rd - 25:30), Jacob Towne (4th - 25:32), and Dan Foley (7th - 25:48). Brendan Molony (10th - 25:42), Jeff Cherry (13th - 25:48) and Kevin Mahar (14th - 25:49) stepped up and earned All-WHAC second team honors. Towne was awarded the "Newcomer of the Year" award, while Geoff Albaugh was crowned the teams Champion of Character. Coach Mike Wojciakowski was given the men's cross country "Coach of the Year" award.
Seven Saints were also honored as Academic All-WHAC for maintaining high standing in the classroom. This group included Albaugh, Foley, Glinski, Andrew Libs, Mahar, Eddie Seymour and Killian Smith.
Coach Wojciakowski stated, "What a great TEAM performance. A :21 time gap 1-7 is what it is all about. This team is in great shape and they run for each other - a fantastic combination come Nationals time."
The Saints have now won nine of the last eleven WHAC Championships and will switch their focus toward Nationals in two weeks.
