11/15/2012 – The women's basketball team used a decisive 14-4 run to start the second half to lead them to the 73-61 victory over Robert Morris. The Saints improved to 3-2 on the season, while the Eagles fell to 3-3 overall.
The two teams traded baskets early before the Saints went on an 18-6 run midway through the first half. The Eagles would not fly away as they closed the half strong and trailed the Saints by four (39-35) at the half.
Coach Nash's crew regrouped in the locker room and started the second half on fire. Aquinas would quickly extend the lead to 14 at the 15:21 mark on a two point make by Elyse Starck. The ambush was too much for the Eagles to overcome as Aquinas would keep Robert Morris at arm's length the rest of the way. The final buzzer sounded with the Saints securing the 73-61 home victory.
Allison Heberlein continued her strong start to the season as she led the Saints in all statistical categories. Heberlein, a sophomore from Lansing Catholic Central, recorded 24 points, six rebounds and six steals. Elyse Starck and Shelby Carter also chipped in with eleven points apiece. On the game the Saints shot 45% (26-58) from the field and 75% (12-16) from the charity stripe. Celeste Jones paced the Eagles with 17 points.
The Saints will return to the court on Saturday as they open conference play at Siena Heights (0-1, 0-1 WHAC) at 1 p.m.
