12/02/2012 – The men's and women's track and field teams began the 2012-13 season at the Laker Early Bird hosted by Grand Valley State.
Adam Lohner began his Aquinas career in school record fashion as the vaulter from East Grand Rapids placed second at the season opener. Lohner's vault of 15-1 tied the previous best of Greg Mileski from the 1999 season. The Saints also received the longest jump in the NAIA turned in by Alvaro Romero. Romero recorded a 23-9 on his fifth attempt to win the event. The performance tied the third longest jump in Aquinas history and automatically qualifies Alvaro for the NAIA Indoor Championships in March. Erika Heston also hit a provisional qualifying mark as she ran a 9.30 in the 60 meter hurdles.
The Saints will return to action on December 14th when they travel back to Grand Valley for the GVSU Holiday Open .
