12/08/2012 – The women's basketball team extended their winning streak to three games as the Saints recorded a home victory over Marygrove. The victory improved Aquinas' record to 7-4 on the season and to 4-2 in the WHAC, while the Mustangs fell to 1-9 overall and to 0-6 in league play.
The Saints, who are currently tied with Siena Heights and Madonna for third place in the WHAC, dominated all facets of today's game. Aquinas turned 33 Marygrove turnovers into 31 points and controlled the paint by out scoring the Mustangs 40-20.
A balanced attack was spearheaded by Shelby Carter who tallied a double-double with 16 points and eleven rebounds. Carter's play enabled the Saints to turn a 12-point (32-20) halftime lead into a 83-48 runaway. Clare Conway chipped in with 15 points, while Allison Heberlein scored 14. Aquinas out shot the Mustangs 42%-33% from the field and converted ten more free throws than their opponents from Detroit. Keara Marks led all scores with 21 points in the defeat.
The Saints will stay at home and host Kalamazoo College (0-6) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a non-league affair.
