Krzykwa and Matthews Named to All-Star Team

12/19/2012 – Matt Krzykwa and Sam Matthews have been selected to participate in the mid-season Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference (MCHC) All-Star Classic at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 5th at "The Summit" in Lansing, Michigan.

Krzykwa and Matthews have been instrumental in leading the Saints to an impressive 14-5-1 start in the Saints inaugural campaign. The selection committee, made up of the MCHC board of directors, recognized these student athletes as key contributors in the early success of the Aquinas College Hockey program.

“Matthew and Sammy are certainly deserving of their all-star designation” said Saints head coach Mark VanVliet, “but more importantly it is a positive reflection on the entire Aquinas hockey program”. Krzykwa and Matthews will represent the MCHC West Division along with all-star designates from Calvin, Hope, Grand Valley, Davenport, Adrian, and Michigan State. The West All-Stars will face off against their counterparts from the MCHC East Division. In addition to the all-star game, selected members will also participate in a “skills competition” similar to the NHL all-star format.

The Saints will resume their season after the semester break with a home game at Griff’s Icehouse on Saturday, January 12th at 5:20 p.m. versus Michigan State University.
