01/14/2013 – The track & field teams continued their indoor season on the campus of Central Michigan University at the Chippewa Open. The Saints field specialists flexed their muscles and carried the Saints to a successful competition.
Alicia Dorko's performance in the pole vault highlighted the activities as the junior from Schoolcraft jumped 12-2 to break her previous school record (11-11.25). Dorko automatically qualified for the indoor championships and is currently ranked third in the NAIA in the vault.
On the men's side Alvaro Romero won the triple jump (47-2.5) to automatically qualify him for the championships. Alvaro's leap placed second on the All-Time list for the Saints and is currently the fourth longest jump in the nation. The Saints also received another fine performance from Michael Shearon. Shearon tied for first in the high jump with a new personal best of 6-7.50. Michael's jump provisionally qualifies him for Nationals Championships in March. Shearon is now the fourth highest jumper in Aquinas history and he ranks seventh nationally.
The Saints will return to action on January 18th as they travel to Grand Valley for Mike Lints Open.
