Poor Shooting Dooms Saints

01/14/2013 – The men's basketball team was tripped up by Madonna by the score of 63-46 in WHAC action from Livonia, Michigan. The victory improved the Crusaders record to 9-2 in the WHAC and to 14-5 on the season, while the Saints fell to 8-11 overall and to 6-5 in league play. Madonna currently sits atop of the WHAC standings, while the Saints find themselves locked in a seventh place tie with Northwestern Ohio.

The Saints, who had been undefeated in 2013, were looking to steal a road win against the Crusaders. Aquinas would open the game with a bucket by Brett Pfahler, but would never taste the lead after that point. The Saints, who shot 27% for the game, would be playing catch up with the WHAC's top team the rest of the way.

Aquinas cut the lead to six points with less than ten minutes to play, but could get no closer. Madonna would close the game on a 18-9 run to secure the 17 point victory.

Austin Semple led the Saints with 13 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Brett Pfahler added 12 points in the loss for the Saints. Travis Schuba led all scorers with 28 points for Madonna.

The Saints will return to action on Wednesday versus Siena Heights (5-14, 4-8 WHAC) at 6 p.m. at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center. Siena won the first meeting in Adrian by the count of 63-56.
