01/29/2013 – The women's basketball team defeated Lourdes by the count of 65-44 in front of their home fans at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center. The victory improved the Saints record to 10-12 overall and to 6-10 in league play, while the Wolves fell to 4-12 in the WHAC and to 7-17 on the season. Aquinas remains in seventh in the league standings and keeps their postseason plans alive with six games to play.
The Saints used a 43%-25% shooting advantage to outdistance themselves from their guests from Sylvania, Ohio. Aquinas took a 30-21 lead into the halftime locker room and methodically increased the lead over the duration of the second half. The Saints used a 21-7 run midway through half number two to pull away for good.
Chelsea Matley paced the Saints in their 65-44 victory. Matley recorded 19 points, four steals, four assists and three rebounds. Allison Heberlein and Clare Conway scored eleven and ten points respectively. Elle Sturgell also played well in a starting role as she scored six points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked a pair of shots.
The Saints will look for back-to-back victories on Wednesday night as they travel to battle the Mustangs of Marygrove (2-20, 0-15 WHAC).
