02/17/2013 – The men's and women's indoor track & field teams placed 3rd and 4th respectively at the WHAC Indoor Championships contested at Trine University. Indiana Tech won the league championships on the women's side with 198 points, while the Warriors also captured the men's portion with a matching 198 point total.
The Saints captured conference championships in five events. Earning All-Conference accolades for Aquinas were: Caleb Teachout (600m), Britta Patterson (3000m), Carley Woolcott (5000m), and Emily Smith (Shot Put & Weight Throw).
Other highlights included two new school record for Emily Smith in the weight throw (59-2.75) and Alvaro Romero in the triple jump (48-5.5). Emily is now ranked fourth nationally in the weight, while Alvaro is sitting in fifth place overall in the triple jump.
Erika Heston, who has already qualified for the indoor national championships, set a personal best in the 60 meter hurdles (9.00) to record the third best performance in Aquinas history. Also in the hurdles Brad Farley ran a personal best of 8.56 to record the fourth fastest time ever in the 60 meter hurdles. The Saints also received a strong effort by Brendan Molony. The junior from Kalamazoo placed third in the 5000 meter with a personal best and provisional qualifying time of 15:17.97.
Earning Second Team All-WHAC: Alicia Dorka (Pole Vault), Rachael Steil (5000 meter), Alvaro Romero (Triple Jump & Long Jump), Grant Gunneson (Mile & 1000 meter) and Jacob Towne (3000 meter).
Earning All-WHAC Honorable-Mention: Rachael Steil (3000 meter), Joe Stachowicz (Weight Throw), Clay Weidenhamer (Shot Put), Distance Medley Relay, 4x400 Meter Relay, Brendan Molony (5000 meter) and Geoff Albaugh (3000 meter).
The Saints Champion of Character representatives were Joe Stachowicz and Erika Heston.
