Pair of School Records Fall at GR Open

03/30/2013 – The men's and women's track & field teams opened the 2013 outdoor track season at the friendly confines of Houseman Field. The meet was highlighted by the school record performances of Emily Smith and Adam Lohner.

Lohner, an All-American during the indoor season, started his outdoor campaign with a vault of 15-9 to eclipse the previous best of Jordan Gerard (15-5). Adam's vault also automatically qualified him for the championships in Marion, Indiana.

Smith, a senior from Port Huron, started the competition with a school record in the hammer throw. Emily's toss of 164-7 bettered the previous mark held by Liz Koerner (161-3) from the 2000 season. Smith's performance was a provisional mark for the outdoor championships. Emily also hit an automatic qualifier in the discus with a throw of 149-9. Smith's day was not finished as she closed with the #2 shot put effort of all-time. Emily's toss of 43-1.5 was also a provisional qualifier for the championships. Throwing mate, Joe Stachowicz, also hit a "B" qualifier in the hammer with a throw of 173-2, which currently ranks Joe sixth in the country.

The Saints also recorded twelve personal bests and claimed first place in twelve events. Aquinas will return to action on Saturday when they travel to East Lansing to compete at the Spartan Invitational.
